Wir sind für EMAS - wollen Sie wissen warum?

» As one of the world’s leading patent offices the European Patent Office is a key multiplier in the dissemination of innovative environmentally sound technologies: Every year, the EPO receive thousands of patent applications for “green” inventions. As a responsibly acting organisation we not only made our expertise publicly accessible by co-authoring a ground-breaking study on patents in clean energy technologies to support the United Nation’s talks on climate change. We also show our commitment in the way we implement environmental standards in our buildings and daily operations. EMAS supports and challenges us in our continuous efforts to improve our environmental management.

Being the second largest intergovernmental institution in Europe with offices in Munich, The Hague, Berlin, Vienna and Brussels, we make use of videoconferencing to put a curb on our business travels. Implementation of EMAS, for instance, was completed solely in virtual meetings between the EPO offices.

Coming from over 30 European countries our staff always shown a high regard for environmental issues, and the impact the EPO’s work has on the environment. The introduction of EMAS has further increased this awareness. Yearly “Environmental Weeks” contribute to strengthening further the environmental awareness of our staff and management.

One of our main aims is to continuously reduce our carbon footprint. With the motivation of a well-informed staff and the support of EMAS, I am convinced that we will succeed.
